Active in 125+ countries, we influence sustainability policy and drive local action for low emission, nature-based, equitable, resilient and circular development.

ICLEI's European Secretariat is based in Freiburg (Germany), with specialised offices in Brussels and Berlin, and a staff of more than 150 colleagues from all over Europe, covering a broad variety of professional disciplines.

Responsibilities

Your position is based in the Events and Project Communications Team and will include the following main tasks:

  • Coordinate the communication and dissemination work in European projects (i.a. HorizonEurope funded), working with multi-partner project teams, external service providers, cities and the funders;

  • Organise, promote and implement in-person, online and hybrid events, including programme development, speaker and participant management, and logistics, working with host cities, funders and co-organisers;

  • Develop and implement communication plans and campaigns, visual identities, website content, multimedia content, newsletters, promotional materials, press releases, media articles, social media channels, etc.;

  • Develop and maintain contacts with relevant communication partner organisations, publications and platforms at the European and national levels;     

  • Support and train cities/civil society organisations to develop local communication campaigns;

  • In collaboration with other colleagues, support or lead the acquisition of projects and contracts on behalf of the EPC team.

  • Evaluate communication channels and activities and report on their performance against KPIs;

  • Represent ICLEI at events and present on the organisation and its work.

Qualifications

We are offering an Expert role to a colleague with the following experience, skills and character:

  • Relevant academic degree, ideally in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, political science, international relations, or a related field and a strong interest in sustainable development.

  • At least two years of relevant professional experience in communication and dissemination, including developing and implementing communication strategies, organising events, and completing tasks involving multiple partners and stakeholders - of which at least one year of experience was with ICLEI Europe, resulting in good understanding of ICLEI Europe’s organisational processes and dynamics.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in complex international environments, with excellent and proactive collaboration and communication skills, and the ability to coordinate a variety of projects simultaneously to a high standard;

  • Strong digital communication and visual design skills, including the ability to create compelling visual content (e.g., presentations, infographics, and social media assets);

  • Excellent writing skills, strong attention to detail  with simultaneous big-picture thinking.

  • Ability to effectively use digital tools and platforms to support communication and stakeholder engagement;

  • Fully computer-literate with advanced knowledge of MS Office, knowledge of website content management software (Typo3, Drupal or other CMS) as well as Adobe package (mainly InDesign and Premiere) is welcome.

  • Languages: Proficiency in English (spoken and written); additional languages are an asset.

We offer you the following conditions:  

  • Unlimited contract.

  • Gross salary according to the Expert position in ICLEI’s salary grid (indicative: 49.600 - 52.200 EUR per annum);

  • Place of work: Freiburg/Germany;

  • 40h working week with flexible working time and the possibility to work up to 50% outside of the office; 80% working arrangement possible;

  • 6 weeks of paid leave per annum;

  • Working language is English;

  • Occasional travel within Europe is foreseen.
